Working with parents and children has been my passion for over forty years. I began as a credentialed teacher and then became licensed as a Marriage and Family psychotherapist.
For many years, I was the parenting expert for AOL and the Huffington Post, writing a weekly advice column on every aspect of raising children.
I have written the popular books, Parenting Without Power Struggles and Parenting With Presence (an Eckhart Tolle Edition) and host the popular Parenting Without Power Struggles podcast, with close to 2 million downloads.
Decades of experience have helped me develop an approach that fosters connection and cooperation as the “Captain of the ship”, even in the face of difficult behavior.
Deepening attachment and connection allows parents and children to enjoy one another, creating joy, ease, and harmony in the home.
For over 35 years, I’ve worked with thousands of parents as a credentialed teacher and licensed psychotherapist, drawing from my extensive training in attachment theory, learning styles, ADHD, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and mindfulness practices.
I’ve hosted parenting workshops from Senegal to Kansas, Israel to Seattle, and written two best-selling parenting books.
What I’ve learned is this: without a safe place to sort through our parenting challenges, what begins as a small issue often becomes a full-blown problem. A bossy child may start losing friends. Over-dependence on screen time can turn into disengagement from daily life. Minor frustrations can grow into escalating rages — in our child, or in ourselves.
We often hope that tough situations will resolve on their own.
But having an experienced guide makes a real difference. With the right support, you can reduce the intensity and frequency of power struggles — and learn how to guide your children toward greater resilience, connection, and confidence.
That’s why I created this membership community: to give you a safe, supportive place to reflect, learn, and grow — alongside other parents who care deeply about doing better, not being perfect. You’ll have support when you hit a rough patch — and inspiration to keep you grounded and encouraged when things are going well.

What if...?
What if I don't have a particular parenting with my child but I want help understanding my reactions to their behavior?
The membership is designed to support parents wanting to break old, reactive patterns. Just describe the situation and how you're affected, and I'll offer ways for you to make sense of it using various approaches, including Internal Family Systems.
What if I'm so busy I can't even imagine having time to watch the replays?
We attach a time-stamp to each replay video with each specific question and my answer. This means you can easily fast forward to hear to just hear the information most relevant to you. Parents tell me that they often play the audio through their podcast feed while folding laundry or preparing a meal, or that they tune in for 5 or 10 minutes at a time. Even listening for a few minutes can help you break with old parenting patterns and stay on track to become the calm, Captain of the ship.
What if I'm a lifelong yeller! Can a tiger really change her spots?
I wish I had a nickel for every time a parent tried to convince me that her situation or temperament was special. The short answer is this: ANY parent can make changes in how they engage with their child if they have regular, ongoing support. I've seen it happen with parents who were convinced that the only way their kids would cooperate would be to yell, threaten, or bribe. It may seem like you'll always be a Lawyer or Dictator, but I've been doing this a long time and I know that every parent can move toward being the calm Captain of the ship when they have ongoing help.
What if things are going pretty well in my family's life? Don't most members join because they have problems with their children?
Some parents join the program because they need help NOW for issues, but most of our members because they want to solidify a parenting style that aligns with their sensibilities, even if it's not what they experienced growing up. And many members with young children tell me that what they learn from hearing me address questions related to parenting older kids has helped them avoid problems they feel they would otherwise have faced.

How is this program different from those offered by other parenting coaches?
I have a Bachelor's degree in Developmental Psychology, a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, a teaching credential, and decades of experience working with families as a licensed Marriage and Family therapist. My insights and instincts come from over 40 years experience working with thousands of parents and children. I have qualifications that are not typical for the hosts of most parenting programs.
