Are you tired of bribing or threatening your kids to get them to cooperate?

Could you use help making distance learning work for your child?

The Parenting Without Power Struggles Monthly Membership Program will help you have more joy...and fewer power struggles with your children!

You'll also have access to educational support while homeschooling during Covid!

Imagine the comfort of having access to personalized help from an experienced family counselor for whatever parenting challenges you may be facing.

Picture the relief of being able to turn to a trained educational therapist for help with concerns about your child's distance learning or academic progress.

I’ve worked with thousands of parents for over four decades as a teacher and licensed psychotherapist with extensive training in attachment theory, learning style, ADHD, and mindfulness for families.

I’ve written two bestselling books and. hosted parenting workshops from Africa to Kansas, Israel to Seattle.

What I’ve found parents most need is an experienced and reliable guide to help address ever-changing challenges as our children grow up.

Without a safe place to sort through our parenting challenges, we may do nothing at all, hoping the situation will resolve itself.

Unfortunately, what began as a small issue may become a full-blown problem; a bossy child may start losing friends; a youngster may move from preferring video games to having meltdowns when they're taken away because they're the only thing that makes him happy; minor flare ups may turn into escalating rages--in our child, or in ourselves!

To that end, I have created a monthly membership community that will help you create the peaceful, joyful family life you want.

You’ll have support when you hit a rough patch, and inspiration to keep you on track when things are going well!

Plus, you'll be able to call upon me for guidance on distance learning and learning challenges as you oversee your child's home education during the pandemic.

Working with parents and children has been my passion and joy for over forty years. (I was young when I started!) I began my work as a credentialed teacher, and then became licensed as a Marriage and Family psychotherapist.

For many years was the parenting expert for AOL and the Huffington Post, writing a weekly advice column on every aspect of raising children.

I have written the popular book, Parenting Without Power Struggles: Raising Joyful, Resilient Kids While Staying Cool, Calm, and Connected, and most recently, Parenting With Presence: Practices for Raising Conscious, Confident, Caring Kids (An Eckhart Tolle Edition.)

Decades of experience have led me to develop a way of approaching children that fosters cooperation-- instead of power struggles, negotiations, and arguments.

I show parents how to stay confidently calm as the “Captain of the ship”, even in the face of difficult behavior.

And I help families deepen attachment and connection, allowing parents and children to enjoy one another, creating joy, ease, and harmony in the home.

What If...?

What if I have a parenting question but I can't show up on a call to ask for help?

Questions are submitted ahead of time in a shared online document which I pull from as I prepare for each coaching session. Those who don't attend live receive the same attention as those who do!

What if I'm not sure that this is the right parenting coaching program for me?

I have a Bachelor's degree in Developmental Psychology and a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology. I logged 3,000 hours of internship before becoming licensed as a psychotherapist/ Marriage and Family therapist. Prior to that, I was licensed as a Credentialed Teacher. I've fielded thousands of questions from parents as the advice columnist for The Huffington Post and AOL, as well as in countless online classes. You can't replace the instincts and insights that come from counseling and coaching real families, regardless of how many books you read or classes you attend. The support I provide is based on what I've learned in my work with thousands of parents and children I've helped for over 40 years. In other words, I have qualifications that are not typical for the hosts of most parenting programs.

What if things are going pretty well in my house? Don't most members join because they have problems with their children?

Some parents join the program because they need help NOW for issues, but most of our members are simply with us because they want ongoing support in solidifying a parenting style that aligns with their sensibilities... even  if it's not what they experienced growing up. And many members with young children tell me that what they learn from hearing me address questions related to parenting older kids has helped them avoid problems they feel they would otherwise have struggled with.

What if I'm a lifelong yeller! Isn't it impossible for a tiger to change her spots?

I wish I had a nickel for every time a parent tried to convince me that her situation or temperament was special. The short answer is this: ANY parent can make changes in how they engage with their child if they have regular, ongoing support. I've seen it happened even in parents who were absolutely convinced that the only way their kids would cooperate would be to yell, threaten, or bribe. It may seem like you'll always be a Lawyer or Dictator, but I've been doing this a long, long time and I know that every parent can move toward being the calm Captain of the ship when they have ongoing help.

What if I work full-time? It's unlikely I will ever be able to attend the live sessions at all.

Parents are busy! While it's fun to be on the calls, most of our members watch the replays of our coaching sessions. For parents who don't want to waste hours searching YouTube for free advice that may be questionable-- this is a rare opportunity to get top-quality, personal support at a fraction of the cost of sessions with a trustworthy, highly-trained professional.

What if I'm so busy I can't even imagine having time to watch the replays?

We attach a time-stamp to each replay video with each Question I've answered. This means you can easily fast forward to hear to just Questions most relevant to you. Parents also tell me that they often play the audio in the background while folding laundry or preparing a meal, or that they just tune in for 5 or 10 minutes at a time. Even tuning in for a few minutes can help you break with old parenting patterns so you can stay inspired and on track as the calm, Captain of the ship, even if you've been in Lawyer or Dictator mode all day!

Frequently Asked Questions

When do the Q&A Video Calls Happen?

The Q & A calls are generally held on the 5th and 20th of each month at varied times so people in all time zones can participate live as often as possible.

What ages is this for?

We have designed the program to benefit parents of toddlers through teens. You are welcome to attend both calls, or just the call for your child’s age range.

What if I can't make the Q&A calls?

We vary call times so that no matter what part of the world you live in, you’ll be able to make some of the calls in person. However, the call replays reside in your member portal so you can watch at your convenience. You can also post your questions in advance and tune in to the replay for personalized guidance.

What can I expect out of this membership?

You can expect consistent support to help you become the calm, confident Captain of the ship in your children's lives. Through monthly coaching, emails, and group calls, you will have my ongoing help to navigate whatever ups and downs show up in your parenting life.

Is there a commitment required to stay in the program?

There is no enrollment commitment - you can cancel at any time. Your access to membership benefits, including coaching call replays, is based on your active membership. If your monthly charge is unsuccessful, your membership will pause until you update your credit card details. If you cancel your membership, you will no longer have access to the member coaching call recordings.

Parents share their experience:

Susan does an amazing job of explaining how to get rid of the patterns that you were raised with and not repeat them with your children. She helped me understand why certain behaviors triggered me from issues from my own childhood. Knowing this has helped me be aware of those triggers and really start to enjoy parenting my two beautiful girls. R.T

I have only been a member for a few months but my husband and I can already see that things are much better in our house. Fewer shouting matches, more lighthearted moments. I needed the regular sessions to help me take the ideas I loved in your book and make them real. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. B. K.

"I would have said you were crazy if you had told me that after a few weeks I'd feel closer than ever to my kids, and that they'd be helping with clean up without a knock down, drag out fight. My husband was ...sure that I was wasting my time and money when I joined. But it's been about a year and a half, and I can't imagine finding better support as my kids keep growing into new stages with different challenges. Susan has been a life-saver!"
